Born in the mid-19th century, Fuchs started his career as a lithographer, a discipline he had to abandon due to his health. Putting his focus on painting,here he produced what a dazzling image capturing the beauty and romance of the City of Lights.. We see a little family scurrying along the banks of the River Seine after what was surely an exhausting day. In the distance, the evocation of the tall roofs of the Louvre and the Pont Neuf. The suggestion of street lights also brings to mind the strong presence of the Baron Haussmann, who, with Napoléon III, modernized the Parisian landscape and brought gas lights to the city, giving her the nickname City of Lights. Signed lower left, the canvas itself measures 21.5"H x 26"W.
