A pair of French Louis XVI style painted and richly carved wingback bergères chairs from the 19th century, re-upholstered in linen. Each of this pair of French 'bergères à oreilles' features an exquisitely carved frame, accented with a delicate foliage motif on the crest. Each side, designed to provide both privacy and a protection from drafts, is adorned with a foliage molding, reminiscent of a Vitruvian scroll, that is echoed on the skirt. The partially upholstered arms are marked with carved rosettes on the knuckles, topped with pyramidal shapes. Two acanthus leaves flank the seat, comprising a single linen upholstered cushion. Each chair is raised on four beautiful tapering legs with twisted patterns and acanthus leaf capitals. The undeniable richness of the sculpted décor, combined with a light colored finish, will make this pair of French wingback bergères chairs from the 19th century an excellent choice for any living room, bedroom or library.
