A country French Louis XV period walnut 'commode en arbalète' with carved skirt from the mid-18th century. Made of solid walnut, this French four-drawer commode features a shaped top sitting above four serpentine dovetailed drawers. The upper section gives the illusion of a full-length drawer while it is in fact made of two smaller ones separated by a central panel. Each drawer is carved with a geometric molding that frames the brass hardware. The side posts are simply carved, while the sides are adorned with raised arched panels. The façade is marked by a lovely regularity, accented by the presence of the foliage motif carved in the center of the skirt. The chest is raised on four feet, the front ones being scrolled and decorated with acanthus leaves. With its graceful silhouette and beautiful patina, this French Louis XV commode circa 1750 will bring an undeniable touch of elegance to any room, from a bedroom to a living room.
