Italian 1850s Baroque Style Painted Mirror, Hand-Carved with Stylized Dolphins

An Italian Baroque style hand-carved painted and gilded rectangular mirror with carved dolphins on the crest. This Italian mirror features a simple rectangular frame, alternating painted and gilded moldings surrounding a central beveled mirror plate. The crest is 19th Century and  attracts all the attention with its central hand-carved cartouche, flanked by two dolphins, whose stylized treatment is not without reminding us of the Baroque era (think Château of Versailles). The elegance of the lines, combined with the beautifully contrasting green, dark grey and gold tones, will make this Italian wall mirror a lovely focal point in any room, perhaps placed above a console table, dresser or enfilade.
