French Louis XVI Style Richly Hand-Carved Wingback Chair with New Upholstery

A French Louis XVI style wingback chair from the 19th century, with richly carved décor, intertwining beads, foliage and new upholstery. This French Louis XVI style bergère à oreilles features an exceptional hand-carved décor on the frame and has been newly recovered with a double welt, neutral-colored fabric. Made of an interlaced design of beads and foliage, the wooden structure shows traces of gilding. Built to protect the sitter from either the heat of the fireplace or the various drafts typical of old mansions, the sides are made of a series of curves, starting with the wings and duplicated on a larger scale on the partially upholstered arms. The chair is raised on four fluted tapering legs, reminiscent of the Louis XVI era, with carved rosettes on the front knees and rais-de-coeur motifs topped with delicate beads. With its graceful elegance and richly carved décor, this Louis XVI style wingback chair will bring a touch French refinement to any home, particularly in a living room or bedroom.
