Tribal African Painted Wooden Body Shield with Infinity Symbol and Carved Face
Out of stock
Description
An African tribal carved and painted wood body shield made by the Shonge tribe, from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Zaire). The Shonge tribe, famous for its wood carving skills applied to ceremonials items, created here this body shield shaped in the form of an infinity symbol. Placed on a striped painted background of blue, earth and rust tones, a striking linear face stands out beautifully. The reeded treatment of the skin is contrasted by the dark wood applied to the nose, mouth and beard. The eyes are simply pierced, giving a striking look to the face. This shield, made in a style that painters of the modern era such as Picasso were particularly passionate about, would be an excellent decorative accent in any home.
